Buddhist temple, Chengde, ChinaThe Digital Dictionary of Buddhism 電子佛教辭典 or DDB is a large portal with a compilation of Buddhist terms, texts, temples, schools, persons and more, found in Buddhist canonical sources.
Started out as a basic glossary of Buddhist terms for translation purposes, it has grown into a very useful source for both beginners as well as for professional scholars.

The main focus of the Digital Dictionary of Buddhism is an extensive dictionary, which can be searched in Chinese or by English, Sanskrit, Pali and Tibetan terms; or by texts, persons, temples, schools, places and names of dieties. (more…)

Conference on Chinese Buddhism and Zürcher

The incredible influence of the work of the late Erik Zürcher on the study of Chinese Buddhism calls out for a reevaluation of his contributions, to discuss his legacy, and future directions of research.

To this end, 13 scholars will make presentations at the conference: “Chinese Buddhism and the Scholarship of Erik Zürcher” in Leiden, 12-14 February 2014.

The opening of the international conference on Chinese Buddhism and the Scholarship of Erik Zürcher is on Wednesday 12 February from 10.00-11.45 hours in the Academy Building, in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix.

During the opening Mrs H.D. Zürcher-Bulten will be presented with the first copy of Buddhism in China: Collected Papers of Erick Zürcher.

Oxford Scholarship online

In May 2011, Leiden University Libraries got licensed access to Oxford Scholarship Online, a collection of fulltext ebooks published by Oxford University Press. The Leiden University Libraries have currently access to 491 titles in the collections Classical studies, History, Law, Linguistics, Literature, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, and Religion. Generous donation of work of Chinese rubbings

The East Asian Library is most grateful for the donation of 東北大學附属圖書館所藏中國金石文拓本集, a book case with colour photographs of the collection of Chinese rubbings (taben 拓本) of Tohoku University (Sendai, Japan). Associate professor Ōno Kōji (Tohoku University) was most generous to donate this extensive work, of which he took all photographs, to the Leiden University Libraries.
Here on the left the official handing over of this extremely heavy book in the East Asian Library’s reading room, last February.
